The Great Outdoors

Yesterday afternoon the boys and I were playing outside and just enjoying the great outdoors. This mound/hill of dirt is in the lot next to ours, probably from when they dug to build our house. I think this is actually the first time Andrew was allowed to climb this hill to play. I would every once in a while ask him what he was doing, his response was always "I'm just digging."

There is a funny (now I can say funny!) story about this hill of dirt. Last fall in the late afternoon, I had just gotten out of the shower. We were getting ready to go away for the weekend as soon as Chad got home from work. Andrew was with me in the bathroom. I put on my watch and he decided he wanted his own watch on. He walked from our room through the living room but I don't think he ever made it to his room. When he didn't come back, I called for him ~ no response. Called again...then I went to his room ~ no Andrew.

I was a little panicked at this point. I looked out our front windows and there was Andrew near this hill of dirt with a bunch of much older neighbor kids. (The flag is their doing) These kids had not played there before and Andrew, being the social guy that he is, wanted to introduce himself. I put some more clothes on and took Carson out with me. Andrew did not see anything wrong with this; leaving the house with out telling me. This made me a little scared to take showers from then on. I would always call his name several times to make sure he was still inside!

Carson and I enjoyed walking around exploring things. We have some pretty wild flowers in the woods surrounding our house and the empty lots near by. Perhaps these are really only weeds but I prefer to call them wild flowers because I think they are pretty! This one in the picture with Carson has tiny yellow bell shaped flowers. I did finally get a close up in focus picture of it. I had trouble due to the wind and Carson attacking it! It is amazing how refreshing it can be for all of us to just go outside for a little while!
