Nature hike

This morning we went to a State Park about 40 minutes from our house. We went with two other women from our church and their total of 5 children. It was a nice day to be outside; periods of sunshine and cool temperatures. The park leads children's activities every Thursday morning. This morning it was mostly about fish. The first thing they did was have a snack of blue jello and red swedish fish (the fish were "swimming" in the jello) Both boys loved this ~ food is almost always a good thing for them.

Next they decorated a paper fish with stickers for their scales and drew on them, while a women talked about fish. Then they had a little story time, reading a book about ~ yep you guessed it~ fish! They also had a few fish in a container for the kids to look at/touch. Andrew really wanted it to be his turn but after he was up with it said "I don't like that fish." Then they went on a little nature hike talking about various plants, trees... and lastly they learned to cast a fishing line. Andrew wasn't shy about letting them know that he wanted to try. One fishing pole for 8 or so 3-5 year olds! Not good in Andrew's eyes. (We really are working on patience and sharing with him.)

All of this lasted about an hour and 45 minutes. It was great, just a tad bit long for Andrew and Carson. I took the camera along but left it in the car. I'm not sure I would of been able to take pictures while redirecting and trying to keep the boys on task. I did get a picture of Andrew once we got home and he was tuckered out in his carseat from all the activity. I think in a year or two Andrew would be able to listen more and stay on task.
