We have been noticing a lot of big bumble bees in our yard recently. Then we noticed a few holes under the top railing of our deck. We weren't sure if they had always been there or not, but Chad saw a bumble fly up one of these holes as he was out grilling the one night. (and proceeded to kill the bee with his spatula! I think he was done grilling at that point.) Later we saw this saw dust on the deck and a new hole under the top of the railing. So can bumble bees do this???

YES. We have these too occasionally. They are called carpenter bees and make holes like that with their very powerful WINGS. It's wild. We have them on our playset sometimes and have to kill them so they don't ruin the whole thing.
I hope your boys feel better!!! Isaac's had croup and it's no fun.
