For the past nearly 4 years, I have basically just carried a diaper bag with everything I needed for the boys or myself inside it. The last couple of times that I have gone somewhere by myself (when Chad and I went to Arizona in May and a couple of weeks ago when I went to get my haircut - solo!! :) ) I have carried one of two purses that I have had for way too long and was a little embarrassed of them! So this past weekend when Chad and I went out for the evening, I just put my necessary items in my pockets.
I need a new purse/handbag. The things I desire in a purse may be impossible to find. Here is what I am looking for....
1. Something smaller in size - my essential items are credit card, drivers license, cash, cell phone, keys, chapstick or lipgloss, and some eye drops.
2. I think I want something with either a small strap to hang over one shoulder and tuck under my arm or something that has a longer strap that I can put over my head, hang from one shoulder and drape across me to the other side.
3. Something that is versatile, some what casual
4. I don't want to spend a lot of money. (did you know that some purses they actually lock in glass display cases! not for me)
If any of you have a purse/handbag that you really like, I would love to hear what it is and why you like it! Thanks.

I have the opposite problem. I am constantly buying handbags even though I have plenty! My cutoff price is about $15-20 per bag, though, so they never have to unlock a glass case for me either :-)
I'll take a look at my bags and see if there is any that I would particularly recommend and let you know.
I have to admit I really have liked some of Vera Bradley's patterns the past couple of years. I think you'd really like the Hipster (style). You can find them on EBay for pretty good prices.
I actually was considering bidding on a Vera Bradley Hipster not too long ago but I haven't seen one in person and was a little unsure. I'm not a huge V.B. fan but I liked that particular pattern and style. Thanks Sarah!
You get what you pay for. Quality vs quantity. Yes, I'm the mom with a giant diaper bag-style purse that's a brand. Dooney, Coach and Kate Spade. Their quality has served us well. Water, milk...etc...spills all wipe away. No leaking out like your bag needs to be potty trained. Before diaper bags I was still into brands. It comes down to this: quality vs quantity. When I go to my much loved Wal-Mart or Target it's to buy bread or Chris's tube socks. Not my handbag. So, start simple and easy. Coach and Kate have many classic leather, single strap, perfect for your hand or shoulder purses. Try it at least once in your life. You'll want and love to carry it for the next two years!
Oh yeah.....purses locked up behind glass tighter than Fort Knox is just ridiculous. It's a purse and I'm a girl! I want to touch it, hang it on my shoulder and see if that giant buckle cuts into the inside of my arm or just makes my boobs look bigger. I asked my cousin Amy, who is one of those crazy Clinque white-coat-wearing girls what's up with the glass case. She said it's because the store itself has not actually bought and paid for this merchandise. It's on a loan. She said it's a different transaction/agreement between the Macy's or Bloomie's and the brand. Not the same as a dept store buying belts or pants from Dockers or Tommy. Amy even said that, in her travels, has seen some glass cases that are temperature comtrolled! The only thing I want from a glass case that is temp controlled...is a ham!
