The Short Family Christmas Gathering 12/27/08 - 12/29/08

Saturday morning we headed to Ben & Kristy's house for Abby's first birthday party. We met the rest of my family there. Abby is such a happy little girl. She did well with opening all her birthday gifts, with a little help now and then. She was little unsure about the cake. I think she ended up playing with it more than eating it. After the party we went back to my parents.

Sunday morning Dad, Tric and I headed to church bright and early at around 7:30. The boys were still asleep when we left, it was kind of nice to not have to get them ready before heading to church!! We went to church to practice with the choir. William Eash, who is a professor at Bethel College in Kansas, was at church and leading a choir for whoever wished to sing in it. It was a smaller group (probably due to the time of practice!) but we enjoyed singing together and under the direction of William.

For lunch my mom's side of the family was all together for our Christmas gathering. We have been meeting for the past many (I'm not sure how long!) years at a school. The family is too large to gather at one of their homes and this seems to work out really nice. We eat in the cafeteria and then the gym is open for all who wish to play in. This particular school one of my aunts and a cousin and a cousin's wife all teach at. So my aunt was also giving a tour of those classrooms. It is fun to get together with all my aunts, uncles and cousins and cousins' children and catch up.

Sunday evening we were all together at my Mom & Dad's house. Mom fixed appetizer type foods due to the large meal we all had at lunch. We listened to Christmas music and opened Christmas presents. Andrew's phrase after opening nearly every present this year was "This is what I always wanted!"

Tricia and Justin gave Carson this set of Melissa & Doug musical instruments for Christmas. Above is Tricia on the tambourine, Justin playing the triangle, Andrew on cymbals, Carson playing the maracas and Dad/Grandpa playing the grooved out wooden stick thing. Quite the racket!! :)

The four of us headed back home on Monday morning. We had lots of fun with all of our family members but enjoyed going to sleep in our own beds again after 5 nights away.
