Good Flick

Last week there was a message left on our answering machine from the Family Video. They were inviting us back. (see I love a good deal) They were again offering us a free rental and then 50% off our rentals for the next two weeks because we haven't been in for a while.

So Chad went up last night and rented Seven Pounds starring Will Smith. I will admit that sometimes I am a little slow to catch on to certain movies. This is one of those movies. I remember asking Chad "What is going on?" and Chad replied "I don't know, just keep watching." We both enjoyed this movie. We went to bed after watching it and I could not go to sleep. I kept thinking about the movie and trying to figure it out. Even today I have been thinking about it quite a bit, remembering certain parts and then thinking "Ohhh, yeah."

I would recommend it, infact I might have to watch it again since we have it for 5 nights. That way I can pick up on things I might have missed the first time viewing it.

Food, Inc.

Chad went to Columbus tonight to see the film Food, Inc. I'm excited to hear what he thought of it. He thought the film was only going to be in Columbus this week, but because of the demand and response the film has received they are keeping it two more weeks. Check your local movie theatre. I think the film will make you think about what you are eating.

I love a good deal!

So this might be pretty minor, but it still left me with that great feeling after I find a good deal!!

Friday night after the kids were in bed I went up to Family Video to rent a movie. This is something we have not done in a long time! Chad has been working on the basement a lot of evenings over the past few months or we are gone.... I was pleased to see that many of the new releases that we didn't get a chance to see in the theater were available.

I grabbed Slumdog Millionare and went to the counter to pay. She asked for my phone number and said "you haven't been in for a while." right. She said "since last August?" probably. "Well, I am going to give you this movie free and then you will get movies at half off for the next two weeks." Great!! She said that if someone hasn't been in for more than 90 days, they offer this deal as a way to get you to come back in.

We enjoyed the movie. I was really glad it had a good ending - something this kid really needed after every thing that happened to him (that is all I will say, incase you haven't seen the movie!)

So of course when I took this movie back on Saturday I picked up another movie, Nights in Rodanthe. I wanted to see this movie because of where it takes place, The Outer Banks NC - a family favorite vacation spot. And I love a good romance movie. I took this movie up to the counter (Andrew was with me too. The kids DVDs at this video store are free, so he picked one up too as a reward for doing a good job with his family chores this week) This time they said they were running a special on Nights in Rodanthe for one night rental for 75 cents!

We got three DVD rentals this weekend for a grand total of 80 cents! We will more than likely be watching more movies this weekend to take advantage of our half off for this two week period. Then we will probably wait another 90 days before going back so we can have this sweet deal again! (Am I cheap or what???)

Does anyone have any advice as to what we should rent? I would like to see Marley and Me or The Reader or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -is that out on DVD yet?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I also got this great pair of black yoga/comfy/"racing day" (what Andrew refers his sweats to because of Backyardigans Race around the world episode...racing day it's racing day...) pants at J.C.Penney for $4.97 and a cute little summery shirt for $7.97! Love it. J.C.Penney isn't exactly my favorite store but it about all we have here!!

Fireproof

I really would like to go see this movie with Chad. I first heard about this movie on WNVR, Mount Vernon Nazarene University radio station, a few weeks ago. I was intrigued by this movie. Yes, I did have a crush on Kirk Cameron, who stars in this movie, while watching Growing Pains during middle school (?).

But the real reason I was intrigued by this movie is it is about marriage, real life, working through hard times. So many times I will see a preview for a movie and think, "Well that looks like a GREAT movie" very sarcastically. But I mean it this time, it does look like a great movie.

I also saw Kirk Cameron on the Today show earlier this week. He talked about his faith, his own marriage of 17 years and the 6 children they have. This is pretty unbelievable when you think of the stars of Hollywood marriages. But no surprise, he is a Christian.

Fireproof is starting in theaters today. The one in town I think is only showing it for a week, so hopefully we can make it to one of the showings. Perhaps I shouldn't be recommending a movie I have never seen but I really do look forward to watching this.

Here is a portion of the above link....

The message of Fireproof is not preachy. It's powerful, and it's real. It hits home because it addresses issues that destroy marriages and relationships on a daily basis: indifference, emotional affairs, and Internet pornography.

So whether you're single, dating, newlyweds, happily married for years, or on the brink of divorce, this movie is for you. Director/co-writer Alex Kendrick said it best at the premiere last night: "Everybody can benefit from these principles of love." Just be ready to laugh, cry, smile, and grieve before leaving the theater with much on your mind as you apply what you've seen to your own life.

"No one can predict what God will do with this movie. There's an outcome yet to be determined," Catt said. "We're just bringing our five loaves and two fish before the Lord" – and they are offering you a bite this weekend.
