So Thankful

Today was a pretty typical day. We got up, had breakfast and then I set the boys up in our bedroom to watch a show while I went into the living room to do an exercise DVD. It was going fine. Well, the boys were having little brotherly fights - Carson was trying to wrestle Andrew but Andrew just wanted to watch TV; Carson wanted Andrew to come play trains with him, Andrew wanted to watch TV; so Carson ended up in the living room with me. Thank goodness!

I only had two more circuits in the DVD I was doing when I heard this very loud noise from the bedroom followed by silence. I ran back to the bedroom and saw this...

except Andrew's legs were underneath the drawers of the dresser. By this time I am working through so many emotions. Scared, panic, relieved, thankful, angry, doubtful.... I was able to push in the dresser drawer and free Andrew's legs. I asked him what he was doing, he said pulling on the drawers. I doubted him. He must have been pulling really hard, but he said he wasn't. Come to find out later he had ALL the drawers open and then the dresser fell over. I guess those child safety brackets to attach dressers to walls are necessary.
Notice the TV all the way up by our headboard? It usually sits on top of the dresser, I guess it went flying when the dresser tipped. The boys often sit at the foot of our bed to watch TV. I am so thankful that Carson wasn't sitting there when the dresser tipped and the TV went flying! The TV we have in our bedroom we bought right after we got married, 1999. It is a Zenith TV and it is a monster - quite heavy. And that dresser is a monster as well. I am amazed that Andrew wasn't injured. The top of the dresser is resting on our foot board of the bed and I think the bottom drawer is supporting the dresser on the floor and then the next two drawers were resting on Andrew's legs. How was he not crushed?! I don't think he even has any bruises. If our bedroom wasn't set up just like this, with the dresser across from the bed at just the right distance so that the bed could stop the dresser from completely hitting the floor...the outcome could have been much different.
He was fine until I told him how he could have been hurt really badly and then he started crying. I really hope he leaves the dressers alone now. The bed has some marks on it but really that is it. The monster TV still works (I think Chad was secretly hoping that he could replace it with a flat screen). We were definitely being watched over this morning! So thankful.
