Boo boos

Andrew has had a rough 12 hours or so. Last evening he went outside with Chad before bedtime to pick up some toys we had left out there yesterday afternoon. He had shorts on and was pushing his little truck up the driveway and took a nasty spill. Both knees are scraped up and boy did he ever cry! He is usually pretty tough so this must have really hurt and it didn't help that he was tired.

Chad brought him inside and comforted him. Then cleaned up his knees and put a large bandaid on his left knew which was much worse. Chad put on Andrew's pajamas and then let him curl up on the couch and watch the Reds game with him. (Andrew was concerned when one of the players slid into second base, he wondered if the player at skinned up his knee too!) Andrew later whimpered, limped over to me where he soon fell asleep in my arms between the many "ouch"s he muttered. Poor guy. This morning when I was helping him use the restroom he said "I just wish Dad was here to gently help with my pants". I guess I wasn't being gentle enough.

Today we were at the park with friends from church. We went out to their van with them to say goodbye. Her kids were in the van and she and I were talking. Andrew started shutting their van door and shut it on his left thumb. The tears and wales began again but he quickly recovered this time. He was back on the playground in just a few minutes.

How I wish I could some how protect them from these "boo boos" but the best I can do is be here to comfort them.

Kristi,

I can so relate to those "boo-boos". Brayton had a rough day last week...skinned up the same knee twice in the same day just in two different spots. Hence she needed two bandaids. The next day she fell again and scraped up the top of her foot (she was running in flip-flops-or fip-fops as she calls them). I just wanted to put knee and elbow pads on her for the rest of spring right on into summer because I fear it will require lots of bandaids otherwise!
