and so it begins...

I have mentioned before about finding it difficult to fit exercise into my daily life these days. I have many excuses, but I won't go into those. I had considered a gym membership and the YMCA seemed like the most logical choice since they are the only one in the area that has free childcare with membership. The down side of the Y was that this particular Y doesn't offer too many different classes, which I really enjoy when exercising.

So I opted for some exercise DVDs instead. We have been members of Columbia house for the last 4 years. I really have only bought the bare minimum to complete the membership agreement. Last month they sent me information about renewing my membership (because I haven't been buying any!). They offered (this is the same deal for new members too) 8 DVDs for 49 cents each plus shipping and handling. You have to buy 3 DVDs at regular club price ($19.99, I believe) over the next 2 years to complete the membership agreement. I decided to buy an additional one now for $9.95 and only have to buy 2 more in 2 years. It is annoying to have to decline the director selections each month, but much nicer doing it through email/on line than the snail mail I used to use when I first joined the club. So each DVD, with the shipping, averaged out to $3.53. Not bad. Much cheaper than a gym membership.

I did the first work out this morning, Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. It was great. A 20 minute workout. I like that this DVD had 3 different levels (I was a little embarrassed that I thought level 1 was difficult enough right now ~ I am really out of shape ~ walking just doesn't do it for me) and it was a circuit of strength, cardio and abs. The boys played and then imitated me some. Hopefully I will enjoy the other DVDs too. This way I won't get bored with just one workout!

After dropping Andrew off at preschool, Carson and I went to Kroger for some groceries. I stocked up on fresh fruits and veggies. Right now, at Kroger you earn triple fuel points when purchasing fresh produce. An added bonus! I really just want to be healthier and if I lose some weight while changing my lifestyle that would be great!

Hey Kristi, not really a comment on your post (although I do hope you like all the dvds - and when you can work out at home it's harder to come up with an excuse of why you can't do it today if you know what I mean) but I really just wanted to say happy birthday! Hope it's a good one!
